Countdown to the New Season Begins!!!

Well can you believe it! Yep the countdown begins to the new 2008-2009 footy season. Cambridge Rangers will commence training on July 15 at 7pm on Coldhams Common. It will be great to see familiar faces but we are really hoping that new players and enthusiasts with rock up to the first few training sessions. We are always keen to have new faces and inject some new players into the sides.

I hope everyone is looking forward to kick starting the new season come July 15. Our first game I believe is at the end of August. My god! It only seems like yesterday we had our end of season bash!

See you all in the coming weeks. And if you are considering joining us then please please come along to a training session and give it a go.

Rangers Mini Worldcup Challenge

There is no rest for the wicked! It may be summer and the footy season over, but Rangers continue to play the beautiful game in between seasons.

Lead by Connie De Martino, Rangers took part in the Cambridgeshire Community Mini World Cup Tournament held on Colhams Common, held the third weekend in June. Rangers won three games and drew one which put us top of our group table. The compeition was arranged in a 7-a-side format with each game 10 minutes long.

In the semi-final, neither side was able to put a goal in the back of the net which led to penalties. This turned out to be a rather long process as most people had to take a penalty twice with a result not easily determined with both goal keepers doing extremely well to keep the ball out of the net. But as they say there can only be one winner and unfortunately Ranger's luck ran out and we bowed out of the semi-final 3-2 in penalties.

Cambridge Rangers on the Rampage!

Well what better way to start this blog off then to congratulate our roaming Rangers on a fantastic Holland Trip. Thanks to Nay for organising the trip away. Once again, Gramsbergen welcomed us to their International Tournament. This time there were three English teams so the word is spreading. Numbers were a bit thin on the ground this year with only 13 people making the trip, but nonetheless we had a blast.

We managed to field 10 players for the tournament. We played six games in total each 18 minutes long. We even faced a penalty shoot out to decide who was going into the semi-final. We won - yes that's right and English team actually winning a penalty shoot out - and were thrust into a semi-final match. Unfortunately lady luck decided to take a short exit to the bar and we lost in a close match 0-1 against a Holland side.

Still, we came 6th out of 20 teams and that is something to be proud of....and did I mention we only had 10 players!!!!
